Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy
Experience the healing potential of ketamine with a licensed psychologist in Denver.
Why Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy?
Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy offers a different way of meeting one’s inner life, often loosening the hold of familiar patterns of thought. People are often drawn to this work when insight alone has not led to lasting change, or when parts of their experience feel difficult to access in ordinary states of awareness.
Ketamine can briefly soften perspective and defenses, allowing experience to be met with greater openness. In ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, these moments are not treated as outcomes, but as openings—explored and integrated through ongoing therapeutic work.
KAP is not about bypassing difficulty or accelerating growth. It is a deliberate, relational process that unfolds over time. Some pursue this work for relief from persistent symptoms; others for deeper self-understanding. Often, it is both.
The Research Support
Research on KAP has focused most consistently on conditions where people often remain stuck despite sustained effort with other treatments. The evidence suggests that ketamine, when used alongside psychotherapy, may support engagement and flexibility in the treatment of the following concerns:
Depression, including treatment-resistant depression
Post-traumatic stress and complex trauma
Anxiety and panic
Obsessive-compulsive symptoms
Suicidal ideation, within carefully monitored clinical contexts
Grief and complicated bereavement
Disordered eating and emotional numbing
KAP may also be meaningful for those seeking deeper personal understanding, spiritual exploration, or support in working through existential questions.
What to Expect
Medical Intake (1 session)
A medical intake with a licensed provider is required prior to beginning KAP. This evaluation reviews medical history and safety considerations and determines and eligibility for ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. This visit may be covered by insurance
Preparation (50-minute sessions, 1-4 sessions)
Preparation sessions focus on reviewing your goals and setting intentions for the course of treatment. These sessions provide orientation to ketamine and what to expect during KAP journeys. Education is offered, and questions or concerns are addressed fully prior to beginning ketamine-assisted work.
KAP Journey + Integration (2-hour sessions)
KAP journey sessions take place in a calm, private setting with my therapeutic support. The experience is held within a psychotherapeutic framework, with attention to psychological grounding and allowing internal experience to unfold without direction or interpretation.
Integration occurs immediately following the ketamine session. This time is used to reflect on what emerged and to situate the experience within one’s therapeutic goals, self-understanding, and ongoing psychotherapy.
Frequency & Course of Treatment
The number and timing of journey + integration sessions are determined after the preparation phase and adjusted based on individual needs and goals. On average, clients complete an initial series of approximately 6-8 KAP sessions, followed by maintenance sessions scheduled monthly or as needed.
